Reviews:
“Hi to all,
Right now I am almost done with the basic Java part of the course.
Coming to this course with former background in Java, I am going through this part rather quickly just to make sure that I’m not missing on any crucial information.
My impression at this point is that the instructor, Morteza, is an EXTREMELY meticulous instructor. He digs deep into the details and does a phenomenal job of explaining java language.
I am eager to get to the Android programming phase of the course, because I’m assuming that if he does an equivalent instructional work there as he does in this java part, I will 100% understand android programming – and it is very exciting.” (Avi Gagel)“I leave this rating because i liked this course and i learnt more things about Android Programming” (Nikolaos Papazian)
“When I started this course I was already engaged in another Android Development course that I’ve found in Udemy. The problem was I had coded for the last time 8 years ago in college. It was my first time with programming and it didn’t go well.
The teachers were more interested in helping the already knowledgeable students with little or some experience than the newbies like me. So, in the other Android Dev course I mentioned, I was struggling with simple things: From int to doubles, ifs to ‘whiles’ and I didn’t even know what a class was because that was when I stopped the college, after not passing my grades.
So I started looking for a course here in Udemy that would make me learn the basics again in a thorough and clinical pace. That’s when Morteza’s course got my attention. In simple words, I loved the course.
My main focus points are:
1 – Morteza is super polite.
2 – He answers all your stupid questions without even criticize you, which let you free to ask all your stupid beginner questions.
3 – The course seems slow and boring at the start but that is because Morteza is focused on delivering the best understanding of the simple things in programming: what are variables, methods, classes and so on.
4 – This course is recommended to COMPLETELY beginners, not “beginners” like some other say and after a while you get lost.
5 – The codes are repetitive of some sort, but that’s not an issue after you complete the lessons and the course because you can see that you’ve learned everything even without making any practice exercise. That’s because Morteza explained everything in the little boring details so our stupid brain doesn’t get confused. =P
6 – Morteza doesn’t just put a method, like “Double.parseDouble” in your face and say “the android dev website has it explained, you should go there and see what it is”. He explains you, more than once and in different ways what the method does. Sometimes you get confused but that’s where the ‘repetitiveness’ of the codes come in handy. You see him coding the same stuff more than once and in the second time you understand everything (if not in the first). And for me, this is formidable because our brain works and learns through repetitiveness.
7 – But, be aware and read the course description. I know some people would come here, see 60 apps and think: “Wow. I will learn how to make 60 youtube, angry birds and so on apps on a beginners course”. That’s not how it is. Most apps are simple because Morteza tries to show us the simple things we can do, for example with a specific set of widgets or stuff like it. “Responsibility involves not giving a man a fish but teach him how to fish”.
8 – The course seems outdated because of the differences between the Android 2.2 and the version he used, I think 2.1, but it’s not. You can learn everything fine because there are not so many differences between the versions.
9 – I would recommend the Intermediate part to have more apps in the future, and more versions of popular apps like some other instructors in Udemy do because that can only be an upgrade.
10 – Independently, more apps on the intermediate version would make a treat.
11 – The ONLY app I would recommend to do a review on the video and make it more “chewed” for the baby users is the SQL one. I still am trying to understand everything on the app because I suck at SQL since college (bad teachers) and as a IT professional for years now I know people usually struggle with SQL. So, any changes to make it more clear would help imensily.
12 – Maybe some little exercises could have us newbies to get things faster too. Many Udemy courses suffer from the lack of exercises to keep us thinking and not just watching and writing. In this course case though this is just an advice because you will learn everything without a single exercise, just coding while watching the videos.
13 – Finally, for the most part of the course the 10 min videos are PERFECT! You don’t get tired because 10 minutes” (Arthur Abreu Leite Oliveira)
